Default BG Synthetic for Tranny?

Well I went to the local Indy today to purchase Redline Shockproof Gear Oil for the tranny's on our 07 and 08. He only carried the Redline VTwin Trans fluid and Spectro it seems, not the gear oil.

Then he said the good stuff, the one he runs in all his scoots and top line was the BG Ultra-Guard HD synthetic gear lbricant. SAE 75W - 140

He was adamant this was "the stuff" so i purcahsed with the thought I could always change later if it didn't seem to work as well.

Anyone else try it?

I just put the Red Line shock proof in the tranny of my 2010 wide glide. What is the best lube for the Primary?

Seems like most shops will try and pawn what ever they have on the shelf and call it the best stuff out there. I tend to believe real life experiences like others have had with the Redline.

And Redline VTwin trans fluid is the same thing as the Shockproof Heavy too just in case...

I read somewhere the Redline Vtwin tranny fluid has shockproof and is 75-140.

Could be......guess it comes down to if you trust the guy or not and his shops reputation. But even then there is no guarantee.

Since I do all my own work I am going by what others around here say about his shop and honesty.

I have seldom seen anyone slam the Redline or V-Twin shockproof pink stuff. So I tried it.

At first, I thought no big deal. But after just a couple hundred miles, it really smoothed out the gearbox, quieter, and find neutral on the first shot every time.

Just changed V twin with shockproof after 5,000 mi. To be honest I could have left it in there. It came out clean.
My reasoning for running V twin with shockproof rather then the gear oil is heat. The thicker the fluid the more heat generated by the tranny and engine. I've used several types of tranny oil, amsoil, Lucas. Syn 3 and so far so good with redine with shockproof.

He did not slam Redline....had it on the counter in front of me. Just stated that IHO the BG was the top of the tranny gear oils. He stated Redline was a very good product.
I just want to clarify that point, do not want anyone thinking I am calling Redline in question at all based on his comments today.

I have confidence the BG is darn good, probably no better but maybe as good as Redline. Since I have it in hand I am going to try it. If I "hear" a difference in her 07 5th gear sound will leave it in. If no difference will try the Redline in her 07. I will make myself the unscientific experiment since again, I do believe the BG is a top end product most likely better then whatever is in there now.

I've used BG before and it was better than the Syn3 the dealer used at my 1000 mile service. But since I've started using the Redline, I won't use anything else. Tranny is alot smoother and quieter.
