Default Residue on Pipes

Just got my Monster Ovals installed about a week ago and last night I was cleaning the RG up and noticed a black almost tar like substance on the bottom of the pipes where the new pipes and stock come together. It's a hard substance and you can't scrape it off with your finger nail, just wondering if anyone knows how to get the stuff off w/o damaging the chrome finish on the bottom of the pipe. Thanks.

I've never done this, but a freind of mines girl burned her boots up real good on his pipes, and he cleaned em up real nice using a spray on oven cleaner. As I said, I've not done this, but that was over a year ago and his Sampson pipes still look great.

Reading your thread, I thought it was something you could scrape out and smoke.
This one's been on here before with quite a few remedies from scraping off with a penny to oven cleaner. Watch out for the painted surfaces though.

+1 on oven cleaner dont spray in anywhere near the bike tho. Will discolor your seat in seconds. I use gasoline also it works better, also try this stuff I put it on after i take off the heavy tar and it gently removes the rest of the blemishes http://www.ultralusterwash.com/product_metalluster.php this is the best stuff i found for all chrome looks like new after i use it.

I second the steel wool. It works wonders on all CHROME. Just dont use it on polished aluminum. Get 000 or 0000 steel wool. Yo can even use it on the glass of your car. It makes the water bead up very nice.

I had some residue from my boot rubbing on my pipes and I just used a safety scraper; you know, the kind with a razor blade in it.
