Default Blacked out FLHRC

I have an 09' FLHRC. I want to start blacking out little parts for now. To but them new from Harley would be a fortune. A friend powdercoated parts of his hummer and it looks good. I was wondering if anyone has tried this on a bike and if it will flake. I was wondeering about the painted Harley pieces. Will it scratch and what to do when it does. Any ideas?

On my old Road King I went with a combo of H-D parts (Nacelle and fork lowers) and pulling stuff off and having it powdercoated (everything else). H-D didn't offer the range of black parts that they do now back them. Didn't have any problems with either way. On my Street Glide I pretty much tore off everything and had it powder coated. You might also want to check out ebay for voodoo041672:

Great quality and reasonable prices plus you can sell your take off parts to get back some of the $$$ you spend..

If you can turn a wrench, then powder is definitely the way to go. A whole lot cheaper, you just gotta find a good coater.

Everything that I blacked out on my bike ( except the plastic parts ) was powdercoated. The crash bars and a few other parts were done 7 years ago and still look great. The lower fork tubes were done 6 years ago. Still look great. I ride this bike all over the place in all weather.

When done properly, powder coating is VERY tough and can withstand some serious abuse. See my sig pic to get an idea.

You won't regret powder coating

I bought the pc gun from harbor freight for 70.00 and the powder runs about 6.00 a can. The powdeer goes a long way. I used a toaster oven for most of the small parts. I get people wondering all the time who did the pc.

Just tear it down and do it all at once.
