Cool Front running lights

Ok. I've been on the HD Forum for a full day now and I'm going to ask my first question. I recently bought a 03 Road King CL anniversary model. I took it to our local Harley dealer to have it checked out before I bought it. I was told that the front running lights were not working. The tech said he checked the bulbs and they were fine. He said the only way to find the cause was to troubleshoot the electrical system and that would be for another appointment. I told him to let it go for now and I would act on it later. My question is this. Does any law say these have to be working and can someone tell me if they have experienced this problem and the fix if possible. The tail light does come on when you turn the switch on but not the front. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Rog

Do the turn signals in the front work?

I think the only thing that is required is the front headlight has to be on when the bike is running.

It doesn't matter how long you have been on the forum. You can't ask any questions until you introduce yourself.

BTW, welcome to the Dark Side.

Check to see if the headlights are set on high beam , they shut off when the headlight are on high beam. I am sure the tech thought of that but it might be worth checking out .

The headlight is on but not on bright. I've had bikes forever it seems and I think the headlight on law is universal. But I for one remember when it wasn't. This is just my first ever Harley.

topgeye is refering to the running lights not the driving spots.

had you considered using a voltmeter and seeing if you're getting the full voltage to the headlight socket? this will require removing the headlight, and it's not a bad idea at all to clean the connections and use dielectric grease. and like one person pointed out, hit your dim and bright light switch. one of the elements could be burned out in the bulb. you always want to check the dumb stuff first.
