there was a guy recently who used a tour pack rack only, and then he added a plate i think he made from plywood, i can see where that setup would allow you to strap on whatever you wanted to, a sleeping bag, tent, folding chair etc. the setup is something i'm studying now, as there are some things that will not fit in the tourpack or bags. like you're going to a rally and want a place to sit? folding chairs won't fit, but on the platform built up on the tour pack rack, it would probably bungee or strap on very securely. i refuse to go the trailer route.

Default Something different

Check out this site. I have a set of these and I love 'em. If you don't need them at the start of the trip you can just lay them flat in the bottom of the saddle bags.

My setup I used last year, before my chopped tour pack was ready. Its a tour pack rack with a metal plate bolted to the top. Used a water proof dufflebag that held all my camping gear and whatever clothing I couldn't fit in saddle bags. Worked well.

Also, is the tour pack back rest as comfortable as a seat backrest?

I've used the motherwell luggage rack with my mustang seat for several years but recently added the solo mounted chopped tour pack. I went the aftermarket route with this tour pack. All in , it cost me less than $450 and is of surprisingly good quality. Only real change it needs is to have the tether inside replaced with something heavier.
