I road though a fricking deluge on the way to key west with my nuvi 500 ... so, not only does it advertise waterproof, my empirical evidence says that it IS waterproof. BTW, I had my power cord plugged in too. Wish I could say as much for the HD rain suit I was wearing.
I have a Nüvi 550, it is in fact, waterproof. Garmin lists it as "motorcycle friendly" as opposed to "motorcycle specific", like the Zumos. The touch screen on the 550 works just fine with gloves, too. It doesn't have Bluetooth, or play MP3's, which I didn't want anyway. I have been extremely pleased with it.
I have a Nuvi 265 w/a RAM mount... Works great and I keep plastic bags handy... At the same time, it's easy to also pop off the mount and stick in the road glide fairing glove boxes too...
Using Zumo 660, supposed to be waterproof! Still have Ziplok bag for heavy rain. so far no problems. Got it for Christmas, only been on about 3 months.
Iam not a tecky by no means but simple is better,I just got the Nuvi 1300 for 149 but seen it on walmart site for 128......mainly for my Veh but like it so much for the price thinking of getting the 550 for around 249-269 for the Bike.
I picked up the Nuvi 550 as well and found a handlebar mount that can be easily manipulated to fit your view for like 15$. It has been through pouring rain without a problem. Screen works well with gloves but in sunlight visibility is poor. Not a lot of super cool extras (mp3, ect) but it does just fine for me for the price.
Nuvi 1100,1200,1300,1400 owners there is a new download to fix the locking up problem but if yours has locked up it needs to be sent in to get fixed being the download wont take if you have all ready had the problem...So if yours hasnt locked I would download the fix asp..................I just did on my 1300.....
Been in some lite rain with mine and no issues. I also carry a clear storage bag and put it over it in case of heavy rain. Secure it with rubber band. Can use it with no problems in the rain with the bag over it.
