Question Clutch ? Dealer Issue

Ok, so as a few of you know I went down a few weeks ago, so my bike has been at the dealer for a couple of weeks.

Got a call/voice mail today from the service manager, whom I had words with earlier. He tells me that when the tec took the primary cover off to put the new one on that he could smell something like burning... He goes on to tell me that I need new clutch plates. That he could put High Performance clutch in.

Now prior to my bike going down, I don't recall having any clutch issues, I am not a mechanic and dont claim to be that mechanically inclined, however, I cant remember ever not moving etc when I let off the clutch. I also can remember smelling something when riding however, I thought it was from the AMSOIL I put in the oil etc.

I found out that this is not covered under the extended warranty, also, I dont think I can file it with the insurance not sure how I could say it was caused.

So my question is, what is a High Permormance Clutch Plates, vs Stock, what should I expect to pay for labor time wise. etc.

Thanks

If your engine is basically stock ,I would not waste my money.
I would not think the labor should be much.Ask them if they could possible throw in the labor since the cover is off anyway.

I have almost 48000 miles on the stock plates. No issues.

What year bike and how many miles? Do you do burn outs or a lot of stop and go type riding? Clutches wear out but if adjusted properly they should last a good long time. You might be trying to pad the bill in a tough economy.
