Just happened to me! 4500 miles on the bike and had a decking screw in one of the groves on the rear tire. I had dealer replace the tire. Although you can plug them, (Not an option with the dealer) I didnt want to take the risk. With my luck the tire would fail or come apart on the expressway. No thanks. I paid $280 out the door to have the stealer put it on. They replaced the front under that warranty with dunlop so I wrote it off to myself as TWO new tires mounted and ready to ride for $280.

I've had two tires plugged but both times they removed the tire and plugged fr. inside w a flanged type plug so it doesn't blow out. I also had a tube get pinched when there was a defect (sm round cut) in the inside cords on a brand new tire. It put me down with only 2300 miles on it so I wouldn't put a tube in it. Every time that tire rotates the hole will expand and contract. I know some have had no problems but just stating my bad experience.

And me. I realize there's A LOT of people on this Forum that won't plug a tire and I respect their choice. However I've been using this brand of tire plugs since 1976 and have NEVER had one leak or fail in any way. They're made of aramid fiber and are super-sticky. The "tails" have to be cut off with a razor blade because you can't clip them off using dikes or side cutters. I've plugged car tires, motorcycle tires, trailer tires, neighbor's tires, family's tires and NEVER, let me repeat that, NEVER had one come back because it leaked or came out. When the tire heats up and sort of "bonds" the plug to the tire. They wear down with tire and after a couple of miles they turn black and you never see them. You can buy all the new tires you want because of nails or screws in them but I'll just stick with my "unsafe" plugs. I've made it since 1976 using them and, in my opinion, that speaks for itself. Bottom line...do what you feel comfortable doing.

Just replaced the tires on my car and I had 5 nails in them that I didn't know about. Just had these tires mounted on the rims a year ago. Prompted me to look at my wives car. Found 2 that I can see.

I guess when buying something like that you have to take into account different situations. Is there a lot of construction around where you live. Are you going to be on a long trip and not want to worry about stuff like this. Piece of mind and no regrets.

Just got the bike back today.....new tire @ $278, the funny thing is the screw did not go all the way through. I was pleased to see that for some reason.
