It will take less than 500 miles of riding to wear through the paint if your seat is moving. I really don't care for those rear fender bibs, so I paid to have my rear fender repainted just to get rid of the scuff marks. I think it wound up being about 150 bucks.

Problem solved....but it is a shitty design on a $20k motorcycle!!!
Interesting. 09 FLHRC here with just a hair under 5K miles and no seat movement. I replaced the seat last week with a Sundowner. It too has no movement. Should it start though, I'll remember the tape trick.

Update: Local dealer looked at the seat and saw the movement in the seat and compared to a few in the garage and they moved about the same, said nothing they could do for me, so I guess i'll stop wine-ing and Get Over IT

Trying not to beat a dead horse but this seat issue is part of the reason I have had five seats and five fenders replaced now they are installing blocks on my frame like all 2010sg have so there must be a problem with the 09frame changes that moco does not want to admit to. The seat pans are terrible chinese plastic wich make a lot of movement wich in time breaks the rear seat bracket. I am doing what I can to get this fix for the SG owners but I xan't do much more with moco good luck.

Mine did same thing, I put some 3M clear tape where the rub marks started and then wrapped the tab with some duck tape. Works fine for me.

really? with the stock seat or replacement? I have a sundowner on my '06 FLHX and there is no movement or wear after 25K miles.

Neal Smith, you have had 5 seat/fender changes!!!???? Incredible that your Dealer has done this. I noticed wear marks under the nose of my stock seat on 2010 Streetglide and decided to lay a small microfiber cloth just under the nose to prevent any further damage. Is that like a kotex? LOL!

Noticed that my HD Sundowner seat does not have any rubber feet / stops under it, which certainly would prevent movement and subsequent paint rubbing... seems like a cheap design...

My Mustang on my previous bike actually had the rubber feet that would sit on the fender, preventing movement... I guess there is a reason the HD seats cost less...

Hey just took my bike to the local dealer to make an appointment to have the recall done and have them look at the tank paint. The HD service guy said that if the seat is covering the wear than he didn't think it would be covered. Do you have a reference number or something that I could use to get this covered also? What dealer did you go to?
I just purchased the Mustang solo seat and it shows the wear, looks like crap.
