Default Question about V&H Tru Duals

I just installed new to me Vance & Hines Dresser Duals and love the look but the sound is somewhat puzzling. I have had Monster Ovals on the Ultra for about 18 months and was looking for a little more volume and stereo sound. I got the stereo sound and love it but during start-up and test ride the volume is significantly quieter than with the factory head pipes. Also, the "hit you in the chest" sound is gone. I did notice while installing the duals that there was a perforated, conical shaped piece of metal in the end of each head pipe. Are these baffles of some kind and if removed what impact will it have on sound and performance? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like there is a set of Thunder Monster baffles in the head pipes. Should be a screw holding them in place. Take them out and pitch 'em. The sound should come back.

You also might want to call V&H and ask. They might be the QUITE BAFFLES that they sell. If they are then you'll need to find some standard baffles.
I have the same pipes and they really roar.
Here is a youtube video of what your pipes should sound like.

I have the Dresser duals on my bike. Bought them a couple years ago. They didn't have anything inside them at all. Mine are real loud with the regular (small) ovals.

Must be something new they started doing. Let us know what you find out.

The V&H true duals did not have any baffles when I installed them. They were clear as drag pipes. Put the slash cut slip-ons with them and got great sound. Enough bang around town yet not obnoxious on the long hauls. Very happy with the set up.

Can you take a picture? I didn't know you could put something in the Header to quiet things down. I have V&H True Duals and with the same mufflers, my rig was a lot louder (and in stereo).

Actually...I must be getting old. On long rides they wear me out...looking to quiet things down some.

Were these new in the box or did you pick them up used? You state ''new to you'' so I assume they are used. Sounds like you already have a baffle in there to start with.
I have installed a couple of sets of these pipes in the past two weeks and both sets were new with nothing in the pipes at all.
Nice pipes. The left bracket that attaches to the started bolts could be made a bit better as I had to grind and repaint both to get the proper fit.
