Need powdercoating & paint prep help....
Yes I used the search function, but couldn't find an answer that applied to the touring parts I'm working on.
I'm tearing into my bike to black out more of the chrome and have some questions. I've got a powdercoater lined up that I've used for other parts, but I have some issues with prep. Mostly the turn signal housing sockets.
- Turn signal housings: How do I take the light socket out of the housings? There's some small claws cast into the housng that hold the socket in place, but you cant bend them back without breaking them. So how did you guys take your housings apart for powdercoating? I have an idea of how to do it, but it would mean breaking the little claws and then figuring out another way to hold the socket in place.
- Painting the plastic chrome bits: I know they can't be powdercoated, but what did you do for prep for paint. What kind of paint did you use?
- The rear marker light at the bottom the rear fender: How did you get that little light socket out/off the housing? Or did you just leave it in place and prep and paint around it?
Thanks for your help guys.

Well, I ended up breaking the small tabs off and then epoxying the light socket back in place. We'll see how well it holds up.
For the plastic parts I just used Scrotchbrite pads to remove the shine and give the paint from the spray can something to hang on to. Used some black bumper paint to paint the plastic bits.
