Me too ;-)

 

Camping was fun ... 35 years ago. But here's the reasons I don't camp anymore:

1. I've never had a bear rummaging through the midnight snack I left on the night stand when I stay in a motel/hotel.

2. No drunk azzholes sitting around the campfire singing koom-by-funking-ya.

3. I don't have to walk 50 yards to pee in fiberglass outhouse in the middle of the night.

4. The hotel hookers are generally better looking than the campsite hookers.

5. I don't wake up in a wet sleeping bag with dew all over everything. Well ... see #4 above for some exceptions.

6. Pizza delivery.

7. Mosquitos find it harder to get past hotel security.

8. Walking around nekkid while eating cheetos doesn't necessarily disturb the people next door.

9. Campsite casinos don't exist.

10. Because I can now afford a real bed at night.

 

Always camp. Motels depressing.

 

OK. Here's my story. And I'm sticking to it. Baja. Dirt bikes. 1,000 to 1,500 mile trips. Early morning to dark. At the end of the day, motel. Every time. Now if I can do that on dirt ride trips in Baja then I surely can do that on a road trip with the Harley. Motel, every time. No exceptions, no way.

 

I don't need anything too fancy - Super 8, Motel 6 - But something with a bed, walls, door - That sort of thing.

On top of that, I'm a small (SMALL!) business owner with a mostly 'internet storefront' -- I have a lot of clients that need attention fast - Even if that attention is simply a "Good to hear from you - I'm out of town for a few days and I'll get right on this when I get back" e-mail. So over the years, WiFi has been added to list of 'must haves' if I'm gone more than 24 hours. Otherwise, the iPhone can handle the overnighters - though I have a ridiculously small NetBook with a solid-state hard drive (no moving parts, vibration resistant) just for the task.

Lame - But I guess that's the way the world is working now. A "day off" is rarely ever totally "off" anymore.

 

+1! The above IS my idea of camping/roughing it. Luxury is home in my own bed.

"Camped" for 24 years with the Army, nothing but hotels or cabins for me now.

 

Yes I love camping or stealth camping (dead end forest rd type)
Problem is Campgrounds almost cost as much as a cheap motel room anymore...
if I find a $30-40 room I'm in it vs. $25-30 for a campsite..

 

I have a 30ft toy hauler , full bath , kitchen , air and cable thats the only way I camp , other than that its MOTEL
