rotor experts, slot and bulb orientation help
took my wheels and rotors off newly acquired 07 flhp with abs. notices that the orlando police department has been riding with the front rotors on the wrong sides. the right rotor says left and has the left part number stamped on it. cant see the stamping on the left rotor, but the "bulb" in the slots as described in the SM is in the wrong position, leading. normally with my ocd i would just replace them with the correct part numbers. problem is that the tone ring side rotor is $400.
question is, what is the purpose of the bulbs in the slots in the rotors and how important do you think the orientation is. i know they have moved away from the written words in later service manuals that say the holes and slots must line up on the front brakes, so is it possible that this dilema that i have is also insignificant? dont want to do anything negative to effect my braking, handleing or steering.
thanks and happy easter.

My '07 came from the factory with the discs reversed. It was, as I recall, to help eliminate brake squeel. I've had mine off and put them back on the same way. Make sure when you mount them back up that you have the slots aligned exactly the same on each disc. Lay them inside to inside and turn the top one until ALL the holes and slots line up the same, then make a small mark on the outside edge so you can keep them that way as you mount them.
