My buddies bike starting making a loud cluck during start up a few weeks ago. It is still under warranty but he is yet to take it to the dealer. Could this be a loose compensator nut? Or could it be that it needs the upgraded compensator kit? What was your solution. Thanks.

I really appreciate your humor. However let me explain in more detail. After the starter has been engaged for a few second there is a really loud noise(far louder than should be heard at start up) and then the bike will start.

 

If it is the compensator, then rather than replacing with the same OEM compensator, tell your buddy to spring for the SE heavier duty compensator. That way he will get free labor out of it anyway. But as you know it will have to be diagnosied first.
