UPDATE: RKC to Ultra conversion --> PICS
#12
Looks really good, more so then I thought. Surprised you can strip down that quick I assume you are using the RK's windshield mounts? How do you quickly disconnect the new gauges?
Tell you what, if I ever did this it would be with the gauge pack like you did, never cared for the mega speaker fairings.

Thanks Tom!
It's beginning to look a lot like yours now Darren
Back at ya, WHY NOT? I wanted a fairing bike; didn't feel like taking in the shorts on mine and dropping $20+ on a new Ultra, so I made my own. So far, I'm into it less than $2K for the whole conversion. Just made sense to me.

Jonny, it's lookin great, mine will be done this week, I've run the wire from the new oil sending unit, ran into a roadblock for the socket for the two different sizes on the oil sending unit. OH! while it's down, I switched my main fuse from a 40 amp to a 50, they only cost about $6. I'm keeping my roadking signs on the front fender.
Will send pics too, Did you put a chrome spacer between your spoke wheels and the rotor on the front end? I'm changing the wheels this week too, and might as well put those on while the wheel is off.

It's been near 5 months since I tore the bike down. Though not completely done, I am on the home stretch and am down to just the stereo install to complete the conversion. Surprisingly, the stereo has been the hardest part, as I can't make a decision on which one....... Wayne (firecap) gave me some great recommendations, and the JVC KD-R900 looks very promising. I'm also leaning toward Hertz 4" speakers to put in the speedo/tach holes. Any input is much appreciated, at this point. But I need to get a system ordered ASAP, cause I am sooooo close to the finish. Here's a few pics for now, but I will have a full write up on the conversion in a few weeks, when it's all complete.

I just finished my Winter mods on my bike. Added a driver/rider intercom as well as a bunch of chrome. The intercom finished my "Ultra" Road Glide. I know have everything except for the CB.
Just looked outside at the weather and I think I'll go for a short test ride.
Let me know when you're free for a day ride. I'll come down and meet up with you in Woodland.
BTW, I just installed J&M 7 1/4 inch speakers and they ROCK compared to the Hogtunes speakers I had. I have a Hogtunes amp driving them.

That is a great looking build. I have thought about doing something similar with my own, but thought that it would be too expensive. I am in about the same boat with you. I owe about 8K on my bike and would rather not make that 20K+.
I see you said you have about 2K into the build thus far. Just wondering if you bought used or aftermarket parts. I have seem some good deals online, but nothing I have wanted to jump on yet.
Again, great looking build, and I am sure it will ride amazing.
