May as well ride for the rest of this month.... Order yourself a new tire, and take a nice long week end ride, then swap out your tire.....

Me??? I'd change the tire.... but then again, it ain't my money... I'd sure chnge the bike before leaving on that "trip".... the last 3/32 will disappear faster than the first 3/32.

I'm not disputing your owners manual, but 2/32 is about as bald as you should go...(yes... there are those who ride the tire, until the air shows through..... I ain't one)

Build your bike to a "117" and do a monster burnout! I know someone who does this!

I am a tight *** with my money so i would run the tire down to 2/32 and then change it. However I seem to have gotten way better mileage out of my rear tire--23000-- so a 1600 mile trip is only a 3 day trip. I would run it down more. YMMV

Don't know about Ohio but here in Phx,AZ we have a shop call the Wheel Shop and
they do only Motorcycle tires. Rear tire installed (and done right) is less than two hundred maybe you have a shop like that close by.

I'm in SoCal and it sounds like a nice weekend trip to put on a new rear tire.
Do they have the 180/65B16 in something other than the Donlop 407R? And what is their price?

2/32" is the safe limit, unless you want to try your hand at hydroplaning. I wouldn't start on that long a trip on what you've got left.

its alot easier to puncture 3/32 than to puncture full tread.

You should be fine, but tire wear is dependent on your riding style. I always change out my tires early, but that is my $$$.

Unless your going to put some miles on before the trip I'd wait. I never service anything right before a long trip. Doesn't happen often but there are times when new tires don't seat properly, handle funny, or manufacturing flaws show up. Not to mention someone getting belt tension wrong or not tightening something properly.
Also new tire are a little slick.
Sound like you have enough tread left for the trip, get it done when you get back.
