Weight Loss Program - FLHTP

So, after moving the bike around a bit already this year, I had to look up the weight again. Holy bucket of nuts, with all my gear attached, my FLHTP is rolling in the mid-to-high 800's! Why on Earth does any bike need to weigh that much?
Big-ish bikes like a Kawasaki Concourse 14 weigh in at 615; a BMW RT-P is well under 600 in running order. Kawasaki Vulcan 1500's go mid-600's... even a Honda VTX 1800 only goes 735 in running order!
"Why?", you ask? Because I just might, or because I can't leave well-enough alone! I just really can't believe that the bike HAS to be that heavy. "Steel is cheaper!" Yep--got it, but that's not the point.
The QUESTION is: if I wanted to get my Electra Glide down to 700lbs, before I get as far down the list as titanium bolts, what else could be done? What's steel that could become aluminum? What else could be changed? What parts or systems are seriously heavier than competitor bikes' parts?
