Default changing out handle bars on a Street Glide

I want to the change the handle bars on a 2010 Street Glide, but I keep getting different info from different HD dealers.

One tells me it might take 8-12 hours labor replacing all cables, brakes, clutch, wiring. etc. Another says 5-6 hours, says the throttle wiring doesn't need to be changed. A third says 4 hours and includes everything I need. Obviously the 4 hour guy is the one I am considering. BUT I can't seem to find anyone who can tell me everything that actually needs to be done when changing the bars on a 2010 bike. I will be using H-Ds 2" pull backs.

Any suggestions??

Pete

This thread my be useful to you. Do a thread search and you may find more info. I am waiting for wild1 575 bars. They told me they recommend +4 on the clutch cable and the rest stock should be fit. If you have basic tools and a service manual it's pretty simple to do yourself. It will just take time. I have removed/installed mine twice.

Shoot, I'll give you $150 to change my bars over. Front is almost completely disassembled but it's the little how to that I need. I bought 12-13" mini apes. My brake cable was replaced not to long ago and is plenty long but do I need anything else?
I live off of 190 in central mass near Rt.2 just next to Leominster. I'd love to take you up on that offer if you are willing.

It depends on the type & size of the bars you're putting on. Do you know which type yet? If your putting on a set with rounded bends at the top then they'll usually be easier & faster to get done. If the bars have radical bends like BR & Yaffe then they'll be more difficult & take longer. Don't forget the time you'll need to change out the cables if the bars are longer than the stock cables will reach (Changing tranny & brake fluid then bleeding brakes too)

It's easy!!!! I'm doing 19" apes on my SG right now. This is the 4th set of bars I've done on a '08-up Touring. I could be persuaded (by money) to do bars for someone too! Heck, for a 12pk I'll walk the owner through the process...giving him a sense of accomplishment. A win, win situation!
