I thought I would pipe in again since I changed tranny oil last Saturday. I had been running Belray 85w140 for the past few months mainly because I had some warranty work done on the tranny and that's the only heavy gear oil the HD shop had in stock. Since it was free I took it and it has performed well.

Anyway, after changing back to RL SPH I notice that finding neutral is easier, as once in a while with the Belray it would take some hunting to get into neutral. With the Royal Purple 85w140 and RL SPH I never had trouble finding neutral and I consider these two to be excellent choices. Again, I'm staying with RL for the time being since the price is cheaper in this area.

I should also mention that I have the SE compensator installed, and with it and heavy gear oil this tranny "shifts like butter," in the words of the tech who did my tranny work. I took that to mean "smoooooth," and I would have to agree--very smooth with little noise.

Their website says "Film thickness greater than an SAE 75W250, yet low fluid friction like 75W90." So..... Good question I guess.

I really liked Redline SPH, switched back to Mobil 1 Gear lube and did't like it as well. Wasn't as smooth shifting and had trouble finding N. Now I'm running Royal Purple Gear lube which I like as much as the SPH.

I've used the Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof in all my bikes for the past few years - including a custom with a Baker 6spd pushed by a 127". The trannys are quiet, shift/neutral easy, and this stuff clings to the gears & bearings like nothing I've used previously. I bought a case of it and avoid the hassle of needing to find a quart or two when the need arises.

My had a hell-of-a time finding neutral on her '09 FLHX.....put this stuff in and BINGO! Waaaaaaay better.

I read that on their website as well. I don't understand how they can rate it at 75W250, but have the friction level of 75W90 this must indeed be some type of miracle oil.

The way I understand it, and I could be wrong but I think it's basically thin like 75w90 with the lubrication qualities of 75w250. It must have something to do with the way it adheres to surfaces. In other words it's thin and sticky but like I said before, I could be wrong.
