Ultra owners-inexpensive tourpak 12v outlet
Ok Guy's, this was relatively simple, cheap, and a lot less space intensive mod then the HD version. Cost $22!
I've been thinking about it for 2 years, and finally got off my butt.
I wanted it linked directly to the battery so I could charge a phone or whatever in a "locked" TP while I was away from the bike.
I started by removing my speaker and CB Volume control from the RH speaker pod.
....then.....
... Approximate best fittment to avoid all the above, and drill a hole from inside the TP using an apropriate sized bit. I used a 1 inch (biggest I had), and had to file the opening bigger. Much more efficient to use the corect bit. I didn't remove the liner during this step either. It gave me a good reference point to trim from later.
I also drilled a small 3/16" hole just below the bigger hole for the ground wire. Which I'll cover next.
... Install the CB volume control, the socket, and route the ground wire through the 3/16" hole.
... cut the ground wire to an appropriate length to attach to the RH forward TP mount bolt. Crimp a 10ga 1/4" eyelet to the wire and run the TP bolt through it and install as normal.
... this part is completely optional but I think makes for a cleaner job. I routed the positive wire through the speaker pod shielding and broke it out before the battery (see red wire).
... Cut the positive wire to the apropriate length and solder it to the in-line fuse, with some heat-shrink tubing at the joint.
... next crimp a 10Ga 1/4' eyelet to the other end of the in-line fuse, and attach it to the battery.
... now just trim the liner using an X-acto knife or similar and install. Also connect the CB Vol Control, and speaker, then intall the speaker.
That's it - took about 2 hours but most of it was figuring clearances and fishing the wire through the shielding.
These attached hole locations should simplify this immensly!
Good luck!!!
