Shocker...
I know it's alot of information but, it's obvious you haven't read the entire thread of posts I made.

I think my work / research here is DONE as this has turned into a personal choice battle as to whether or not you should or shouldn't wear a DOT/ NON DOT helmet...not at all what I was trying to do.

Thank you all for the relavant information posted!

they go around and purposly get helmet tickets and fight them in court so we can earn the right to choose what we want to wear or not wear.

I will and still ride with my non-dot helmet (Knock on wood that I've never been stopped for it). See my pix below.

DOT sucks,

First of all the "DOT does not approve helmets". They set a written design standard that they believe is safe, and should provide protection. The helmet manufacturers then try and make helmets to this standard and stick a DOT sticker on them and label the inside materials.

The "Dot does not certify helmets either". Again they set a written design standard. So there isn't anywhere I believe you can actually get a DOT Certified helmet.

This is where the attornies fight this in court. Because most state laws where they require the use of a helmet specify "Certified DOT or Approved DOT helmets" for operating a motorcycle. Again the DOT is not in the business of certifying or approving helmets or the manufacturing of.

I wear a novelty helmet and carry a DOT stickered helmet with me. This way if I am pulled over, I can at least claim I mixed them up! : ) or at least be able to ride my bike home versus being told it's got to be towed. I think it should be my choice anyway.

Go bless our right to freedom of speach and opinion just so long as you agree with me. C'mon people. Who cares if you want look like a mushroom, wear a skid lid or nothing at all it's personal preference. I personally hate DOT helmets and live in a state that has helmet laws. I think it sucks so I wear my skid lid. I know I am breaking the law no matter how stupid I think the law is. If I get a ticket I will be angry but I was taught accountability so how can I come to the conclusion it's the officers fault for doing their job enforcing laws that are passed by the elected officials we voted for (or at least the majority voted for). There are some real jack **** Leo's no doubt and some real cool ones too. Some will let you off and others won't. But if I break the law and get caught how is that the cops fault. That would be like being pissed off at the sales girl from the local dealer for charging $40 for a HD t-shirt that probably costs $5 to make. Her job is selling the shirt not setting the price.
Oh yeah for those of you who think it's stupid to wear a beanie...maybe it is, but then you tell me where it's supposed to end. Is a DOT approved helmet enough. Maybe it should be snell approved. Probably not good to wear a DOT half as it doesn't protect your chin so I bet you think I should wear a full face. Maybe I need to be decked out in head to toe leathers, with full body armor. Probably shouldn't ride at night or on the freeway either, or better yet just to satisfy your concern for my safety maybe I should just to stick with my cager that way I can judge all you bikers as idiots for wanting something so ridiculous as the freedom to just ride!

Headtrip uses the exact same shell for DOT and NON DOT helmets. When I talked to them, they explained a spike test and an impact test. The NON DOT held up just as well as the DOT in the blunt impact test, however the spike test penetrated the liner on the NON DOT. Again, I bought my helmet from them a while back, so this info is to the best of my recollection. I am of the opinion most accidents will be blunt impact with the helmet. There may be a rare instance where your head hits a pointed spike like object, but I will take my chances on that.

Here's the deal. The government "Gang" wants to tell us that it is not our right to choose whether or not to wear a helmet, yet they fully support and allow the 7-Eleven down the street to sell a pack of proven poisen for $5.00 a pack so that they can collect the tax revenue.

Those of you that believe that the government is truly concerned about your health and well being are living in denial.

I rest my case!

Are you guys for real?

I have read all of these posts and can't believe they are written by adults.

We all live under laws and some of them are good and some don't make much sense but none the less, they are the laws of our states and countries. You have three choices:
1-Live by the law
2-Move to another state or country where you like the laws better
3-Break the law and pay the consequences

We are surrounded by laws. At work, I have to wear metatarsal safety shoes. I hate them. They look stupid and are uncomfortable as hell but if I want to work there, I have to wear them. Here again, I can wear them or quit and go to another company that dont make me wear them or I can not wear them and get fired. Same three choices.

If you get stopped for not wearing a helmet that is in compliance with the law, don't blame the cop who stopped you. It isn't his/her fault that you chose to break the law. He/she has a list of standards to check your helmet with. If your helmet meets the standards, you are good to go and if not, then you pay the price.

I know it sucks that we don't get to make up our own personal laws but Hey, there are other countries where you can make up your own personal laws and you can set your own standards of life but remember that others can too and their idea of of personal standards may not be the same as yours so they may cut your head off to get your jacket.

Get over it, folks. It's the law.
