Default 103 build complete Not sure what to think

Put my bike in the shop about 2 weeks ago going from a stock 96 to a 103 with the Woods Tw6-6 cam, sest tuner ( dyno tuned ),SE stage 1 AC, and a set of Jackpot dyno tuned mufflers with stock 09 head pipes.

Got a email from the dealer today saying my bike was ready. Service manager said " Finished your bike today and it turned out good it made 83hp and 102tq That's pretty good for a mild".

I haven't seen the dyno sheet to look at the curves and I know most say don't get caught up with that, it depends on dyno standard( not sure what type of dyno used), what gear used ect. Still alot of unanswered questions about the build and dyno test for me.

My opinion of a mild build would be 95~100 hp and 102~107 ftlbs of torque for a 103 maybe I didnt make that clear but when sent him the dyno results I was looking for he said it would depend on my exhaust. Knowing that the only difference was head pipes and a PCV tuner from the charts I sent him I figured it would be a single digit difference not 16 hp. The way I see it I am missing at least 12 hp for this build.

I am picking the bike up tomorrow so I will know a little more. I know this will be a big increase in performance when I ride tomorrow but am still a little bummed out about the peak numbers. Meanwhile got a cold beer in my hand thinking what did I miss, what did they miss, or is the a dyno thing? I guess I will find out tomorrow using the good ole butt dyno.

Post your dyno sheet and build components when you get it. Doesn't sound right to me..

Stock heads with SE valve springs, and manual CRs, dealer recommened the springs and I requested the CRs. I am hoping his email was a typo and is at least 93hp. I agree the numbers look low and was wondering if the SE heavy breather would had made a difference.

These numbers sound about right without any head work and a conservative dyno tune. Most dealers I have seen that offer the standard 103 kit are claiming low 80's hp. They usually don't really hit the dyno hard when they have a "fresh" engine. IMO

HP is in the heads.

Ride it and if it has excellent manners and ridability, consider your build "mission accomplished" and enjoy the ride.

Hi Sath,
Your numbers seem low. They should be better. My old 95" with SE203's and stock heads was dyno tuned at 81 horses and 97.4 ft lbs.

I've said this before only to fall on deaf ears, when you read these dynotunes in here with stock heads reporting mid-90's much less upper 90's HP, that is UTTER BULLCRAP!.

What you have posted is MUCH more believable in what you have in your build vice the garbage that gets plastered in this forum. I don't care how many PM's you get refuting this reply by fellas holding dyno numbers that reflect otherwise. Taint happening with stock heads........period.

Welcome to reality.

Ride it and if it has excellent manners and ridability, consider yourself fortunate and enjoy the ride.
Thanks for keeping it real UltraKla$$ic. Your build looks like pretty much the same build I had in mind only after reading this forum probably too much I was thinking of going with the woods tw6-6 cam. What's your thoughts on that? Did you go with the HD cam because you maybe get them cheaper since you work there or is that your cam of choice?

Ultra,

I think it is a little of what you and Bennie said. I was actually thinking I could hit the mid 90s but not break 100 with this build and stock heads( just from reading the forums ), I was also thinking the dealer might not have tuned it like it should be because its fresh or hoping I'd be back for some head work.

Also thanks for being tactfull and not calling me a dumb a$$ for believing everything I read.

I'm with UK on this one. I don't think those numbers are all that out of whack for a mild 103. You're not going to boost hp and torque by leaps and bounds in any twinkie motor just by bolting in a set of cams. You can optimize the components you have, and you can dial in the torque curve to where you ride. If you want big hp numbers, you have to spend some money on your heads, and you have to be willing to ride in the upper rpm's. If you want big torque down low and big hp numbers, you have to increase displacement and compression.

I scratch my heads at some of these guys who put a set of 255's in an otherwise stock 96, and then post dyno numbers of 82/98 It frustrates me, because then someone who gets an honest dyno tune is going to be disappointed because his expectations are all out of whack.

85/100 for a mild 103 with either Woods 6-6 or se255's is not only doable, but is in fact around what you should expect, and if tuned correctly, should be a very enjoyable ride.
