Default Rear Crash Bar Experience

For protecting the hard bags on the SG. Seems HD has two versions, any experience on which is best? Are they even effective if you lay it over? Thanks in advance.

They do more harm than good it your travelling at any speed. The bar wraps around and usually will bend into the bag and fender. Lids will get scrapped anyway so I'd save my money and keep the clean look, I took them off my classic. Ask me how I know.

If you go down at speed your going to damage more then bags.

I have the low profile guards on my SG. They look good (I think) and they will protect the bags on stand still or low speed drops. That was my reason for putting them on.

I put on the regular guards after the guards at the gate to the plant dropped the gate on me. Wish I had put them on sooner because they sure fugged up my bag.

No one was hurt or killed, but the thought did cross my mind.

I crashed my Ultra in november in a 25mph slide. The bottom of the bag survived but the lid is toast, along with just about everything else on that side. I won't be putting them back on when I get around to rebuilding it.

I dropped my bike in the parking lot an now have to get my bag repainted. The guard would have save my bag. I'm getting the low profile guards hoping they won't much away from my Street Glide look.

Slow speed drops is what I was looking at. I'm trying to take my low speed game up a notch and will be working it hard this year (to include RLAP in May). So far what I'm hearing is that for slow speed and standing drops they will save the bags.

I have a 09 Road King and I've been thinking about taking off the rear crash bars. The other day I pulled up and stopped in a parking place and put my feet down and there was a light coating of graval. My right foot slipped and the bike went over. I held onto the bike till the crash bars touched.

After I got done cussing I picked the bike up and put it on the kick stand. Examined the bike for damage and there was none, not even a scrap on the crash bars.

Now when the bike went over it stopped when the front and rear crash bars touched. I feel that with out the rear crash bar the bike may have continued to go over and I would have had damage to the bike.

Sooooo, I think I'll leave the bars as they are.
