I asked the deer in my area, they said they didn't...they can hear them but don't give a crap about them...he said it just alerted them of an approaching "target of opportunity"....
Yes, deer are stupid! Friend of mine had a deer running along side of his van and then tried to avoid the van by diving under the van between the wheels.
I'd say no--
One way to avoid hitting deer is not to ride at night !!! I on the just slow down and take my time in highly wooded areas to look for deer.
NO WAY. My only deer hit was in full daylight. Also, the crops were all gone and I had line of sight for probably a mile across open corn fields here in Illinois. I wasn't thinking of deer at all, but the ditches had not been mowed all summer and the grass/weeds were high enough to hide a small doe.
Never saw her, just the hit and the car lurching. She must have been spooked while in the ditch and tried to beat my car and cross in front of me. Took me a few seconds to figure out what happened, I looked in the mirror in time to see her spinning off to the side.
Could find nobody that would pick it up quick enough to use the meat. Then later this winter a deer gutted itself on a fencepost in our pasture and since I don't hunt, a local cop put it out of it's misery, and city workers picked it up and had some good eatin' this winter! Nice when things work out.
