Default Backrest removal question

I'm working on a friends 99 Ultra Classic which has a stock seat. I'm trying to remove the non adjustable backrest and was wondering how I get it off.

If it is the drivers backrest you are talking about, reach down below the backrest through the slot in the seat. You will feel two bars. Squeeze them together and pull up.
