Default upgrade or new bike

Ok, hold onto your seat for a dumb question from a still new to the forum guy. I just wanted to see what the feelings were by the people here. What do you all think is the smartest route to go (I wont be doing this anytime soon),

1. Buy a new Harley

or

2. Buy a new, much bigger motor, trans, etc and make one nasty machine out of the current ride

I realize costs will ultimately may not be that far apart once you buy a new bike and do all the standard "customizing stuff".

I can see the advantages to both but what is your opinion?

Your bike's already big and nasty! But seriously you won't be happy with a stock 2010 without doing some additional work. I suggest you go wild with what you have then buy a new frame touring bike used a year or so down the road and keep the 2005 for drag racing!

I went through the same thing. My 95 FLHTC was a good bike, I was bonded with it and I looked into engines and upgrades. Then I went to the Harley dealer and bought a 2008 96" 6-speed FLHTC with criuse control, 6 gal. tank, fuel inj. and CD player and I have never looked back. But you have already got most of that.

I am on the same page as hiwaytime but my 95 was built with all SE products and all the bad goodies you could get and the trans went so the wife said to just look into another bike.Went to HD and came home with an 09 SG,few regrets but its been nice havin cruise, wider rear tire and injection even though its more of a pain in the you know what than simply jetting a carb.

Buy new. The kids will just have to make do without an inheritance!

The differences in the ride alone are worth the update.

Build the one you got. And build it big. 117+ should do the trick shoot for 140# torque and have the crank done right including having it welded. Timkin upgrade, head work, big cams, By the look of your sig you should be on your way. Why settle for a new stock bike when you can have a Hot Rod.
