Default Fuel filter

Hey guys, what's happ?

Just wondering how often you change out your fuel filter?
My friend brought this up the other day and was just curious.
Thanks
Pete

YES I have the Manual just haven't looked yet. Worked midnight shift last night and kind of just woke up, decided to post this real quick.

Thanks

manual says 25K miles - didn't get around to mine until about 30K miles. Looked fine but glad I did it.

When I was getting ready to do the job, stopped by the local dealer to pick up a filter and the parts manager said they didn't have one and had never been asked for one. I said "your service dept has never asked for one?" - Nope. I told him that is another reason I don't normally deal with them. Went to my dealer and they had a whole box of them.

You'll need a 61001-01 filter kit, 61402-02 gasket top plate and (10) 1311D sealing screws. Change at 25k.

Thanks guys

Thanks Dawg!
You have to replace all 10 screws too?

Hard job or no? Quickly looked through the manual before...
Didn't look to bad.

Yes you have to replace all 10 screws. Not too hard of a job, just have to get the pivot point right when reinstalling by pushing down in the right spot. Putting the convoluted tube on the nub can be a PITA!

What was mentioned above sure made me suspicious. I have my tank off and was going to do the filter and hoses. So i stop by the local dealer and ask for a filter and hoses he looks everything up and say it all would cost me $89 bucks thats all the hoses inside and filter and tank seal and all new bolts ok. The he says don't have any of it in stock. Asked if wanted me to check other stores and he did i was behind the counter and we looked and one store in ohio had the filter and one store in KY had the hoses that was it. Iam thinking the same as above ok so WTF the 20 k service says change the filter so riddle me this when you pay that $400 or $500 service fee for a 20,000 mile service do they really change the filter and do everything on the list hmmmmmmmmmm.

makes you wonder thats why my bike is on the lift in my garage with eveything off of it. Anyway i did not get the filter as don't have week and hoping i don't regret it but i know there are guys on here with over 50k that have probably never had the filter changed.

When did you go? 61001-01 filter kit is a service item (meaning always in stock) and is showing in stock at 23 different OH dealers.
