Default Passenger Backrest for 1990 FLHTC

Something about ours broke! I'm the computer person in this couple, and my man has asked me to see if I could find one. So, I'm starting my quest. The ones I've found so far, say for models 1997 and later. Does anyone know of the differences in those and that for a 1990, and if the later model backrests will work on the 1990. If not, any suggestions? Riding season is gonna start someday here in the frigid midwest, and I wanna go too!

Are you looking for the passenger backrest that is attached to the tour pak? The wrap around one? Or are you looking for a sissy bar upright style?

Default Passenger Backrest

Of course, my man is at work, so I'm just winging it. I'm looking at a pic of the bike, and it's the kind that has the wrap around arms, and I THINK that's the part that he said something broke on. Once he gets home, I'll quiz him some more!

If it's the wrap around backrest that attaches to the lid of the tourpak, that would be easy to get for your bike. You might find it cheaper to find a used tourpak on ebay or something that includes the backrest instead of paying for a brand new backrest only. Then you would even have an updated tour pak. Does it look like the pic attached?

Do you have a "trunk" behind the passenger?? If not I have a complete bolt on set up for the earlier Evos like yours. It is the pad, backrest, and the rear platform the rack or tourpack mounts to, they are in very nice condition. PM me if you need it and we can try to work something out. I went to a trunk.

Dawg, for some reason, I can't access your pic. Yes, the bike has the trunk with luggage rack, hard side bags.... I'll have to find out just what broke on the backrest when he gets home, I'll be able to answer these questions better! Maybe even post some pics.

Seeing if this works, a pic of the bike, obviously, before whatever broke on it!

Yup, you need a wrap around backrest for a tour pak. Mustang Seats might have one for your year, HD might still have one in the parts book, not P&A book. You could find one on ebay or modify a 97-later one to fit by drilling new holes.

You think that just drilling holes on the newer style back rest would do it?

I think you might have to drill new holes in the tour pak instead of the backrest. You wouldn't see them because you could plug the old holes with rubber plugs and they would be hidden anyway. I don't know how much your budget is, but I'd look for one on ebay or something and modify it to fit instead of dropping $300 on a new one to fit. Again, you could probably find an entire tour pak with backrest used for that amount and modify the entire tour pak to fit the 1990 frame if you wanted to.
