Default Went a little wild today...

I need to straighten the bars on the UC (still haven't ridden it yet). I got the right keys from the dealer on Wednesday, so I pulled the ignition **** and the fairing cap to get to the handlebar clamps...

Still lotsa "stuff" in the way, so I just kept stepping my way thru the service manual 'til I had this...

Not too difficult, just a little intimidating to start. Hope to get the bars un-tweaked and things back together in a few days.

Wow! You might as well replace the air temp gauge with an oil temp gauge while you have it apart. Also a good time to put in an amp, better speakers, and the garage door opener. Good luck!

Tweak the bars? Seriously?

I would just buy another set. I would think structurally they won't be too good after bending them back, and I'll be surprised if you get them perfect. I bet you can find a set of take-off bars for less than $50.

Awesome!! Kudos to you for NOT paying someone else to do this for you.

Cool stuff. Obviously you're taking your time, very smart.

Have fun.

Holy crap! Well, good job. Except there is no need to remove the inner fairing. You just need to remove the outer, the radio, and the ignition cap. Then all 4 bolts of the handlebar clamps are exposed.

(I know 'cause i just changed bars. And they suck! So I'm changing back. Ugh...)

that is doing it the hard way LOL. I just replaced my stock bars with the Klockwerks ergo bars. You just need to pull the outer fairing and pull the radio which is about 10 minutes total. Now that you have your inner off you may as well paint it.

Bike was an insurance total; not sure why. The only substantial damage was the guard bar and front of the right saddlebag were smooshed. Rider must'a went over the bars, bending the right side forward when he did.

Chimp; your way sounds better! I SHOULD just replace the bars, but with the internal wiring, isn't that a nightmare? Please say it aint, and I'll find a used set on ebay!

Replace the bars now because in the end you will anyway. You will never get them perfect and they will be to weak after trying to bend them back. They must be aftermarket because the stockers don't have the wires inside. looks like you picked up a pretty nice bike for an insurance deal.
