Harley O-ring sizes available anywhere?
#21
Seems quite stupid to (1) either have to go to HD to get replacements, or (2) take the o-ring(s) to a hardware store and try to match to the correct size to a goofy little chart that doesn't provide one a lot of confidence that the match is exact.
So, does anyone know of a chart that gives the exact o-ring specifications for 2006 (or similar year) Ultra that will replace the HD o-rings? I find it hard to believe that nowhere does such a chart exist. I believe many others on this forum would also like to know this and not have to make a guess at the hardware store.
Thank you.
Perhaps I was not clear enough. O-rings come in sizes just like bolts do. There is nothing special about a Harley o-ring. So let's say that the HD engine drain plug o-ring is this: Standard number: -013, ID 7/16, OD 9/16, CROSS SECTION 1/16. Then, I could just go to the hardware store and get the exact replacement. Now, does anyone know if there is a chart available that lists the generic o-ring equivalent for Harley's o-rings?

I just remembered there is an available measuring crossover chart or tool. Check out kimball-midwest.com (not sure of the hyphen). They have a cone that has a bunch of their oring part numbers on it, you slide the o ring down till it sits level and read the numbers for the part.
Now this doesnt state size, but kimball is a national recognized distributor of automotive fasteners to the industry and most any one can cross reference their part to the correct size OR punch in their part number and their sight may give you the specs on the oring.

A novel idea is to have the next person that has to purchase a complete engine gasket kit to mic every single o-ring and go on Mcmaster-Carr and get the corresponding number for the measurements....but then again, why? If you are replacing o-rings other than the fluid plugs you would have to be replacing gaskets anyway and the o-rings come in the kits with the gaskets.

Check out this thread. I get mine from dawg. I usually grab a handful from his stash when he's not looking.

I think I paid $3.99 for 100 11105 o-rings on eBay. They've been flawless. I've been a hero because I'm giving them to all my friends who do their own oil changes.
Better than $1.99 EACH at the dealership.

If it matters to anyone, if the quick connect fuel line under your tank leaks (left side), the o-rings have deteriorated. I used the drain plug size o-rings to replace them. Worked fine. 08 Ultra. Remove old one w/ dental pic, carefully install new one.
