Default Noisy Clutch chirp 01 Roadking

2001 Roadking. Changed the fluids replaced them with Syn3. New To me bike and not sure what was in it before.

Clutch was very close to the bar with a lot of slop so performed the clutch pack adjustment. Turned the adjuster screw in until I felt it touch the pushrod. turned back half a turn and locked the jamnut. Adjusted the clutch cable so I have 1/16" at the cable.

Now when I run the bike I get a chirping noise when I pull the clutch in. Pulled the pushrod and adjuster out and the ends look blue'ed from heat. Don't think the heat is from right now because once I heard the noise I shut it down and did not ride it. The ball ends of the pushrod are not galled and still very smooth.

Any idea's what could cause the noise?

It does go away after warm up. And then comes back when cold. I do believe it is coming from the throw out bearing. If it were a car that is what I would suspect.

Your probably right about the throw out bearing.
I'm not a fan of syn3. It carbons up engines and seems to not provide enough vascosity for clutch or tranny. Just my opinion. Before tearing into clutch, I'd think about going back to regular Harley 20W50 in the primary.

Did you collapse your cable adjustment all the way before doing the clutch pack adjustment?

Mine chirps for a split second when I downshift. Not while I'm holding the clutch in though. I don't pay it any attention. I run plain old Castrol 20/50 in the primary. I've been wondering if anyone else's chirps when shifting?

Never.

Many years of riding and many different bikes. Never chirp when shifting.

Something just dawned on me.

I have had a poor adjusted drive belt that chirped!

Doesn't sound like the OP's problem since it didn't start until after the clutch adjustment.

But might be cuda67's issue.

I'm fairly certain mine is the clutch, but will try to check it better today.

+1 on the belt. Had one that drove me nuts (replaced 65 tooth w/70 tooth + belt) and couldn't loose the chirp! It does sound real similar to a throwout bearing noise
