Default Do I need and Extended Warranty

I am buying a New 2010 Ultra Classic and the Dealer is pushing the 7 year warranty with wheel and tire coverage real hard. I cant seem to find anyone that will discount it, and $1800.00 seems like alot of money since I will prob only put 40k on in 7 years.. Any thoughts...Do these bikes require alot of repair?

I would get it IF you don't plan on making modifications that would void the warranty in the future. But....we all end up doing that.

This has been debated a lot, but just know the dealer is really pushing it because it is a sales maker for the dealer. In fact the finance manager that push the warranties is just the top salesman.

My problem would be as soon as I buy a bike I start changing engine parts to get more power and I don't necessarily want HD parts. I would be paying for a warrenty that HD would probably void.

I guess the real question is " Do these bikes have a high frequency of repair if left stock"

Not really, but there are occasions. I will bet if you surveyed 100 people if they needed the warranty 90 would say no, and 10 would swear by it. That being said most people that buy them and don't use will tell you there are just paying for piece of mind. To me $1800 is a lot for piece of mind. Again JMO

Yup... nearly 2K for piece of mind? Put that money in an interest bearing account and wait til you need it!

This has been beat to death, but what the hell, I'm bored.

I got 7 years with wheel & tire for around $17.50 a month (assuming that you divide it out that way). For $17.50 a month, I have roadside pickup and towing to the nearest dealer when I'm in BFE at 10:00 on a Saturday night. My hotel room that night will be paid for. If anything goes wrong with the bike, it's covered for a $50 deductible. If I'm out in BFE, or anywhere for that matter, and I get a flat, I can call a number, get picked up with the bike, get taken to a dealer, and the tire will be replaced for free. If there was any damage to the wheel from the blowout, it gets replaced as well.

I bought this bike for road trips. It'll probably see 20,000 miles a year (at least). $17.50/month for the peace of mind knowing that I'll never be stranded, and that any repair will cost me no more than $50 is money well spent to me.

Another use for the warranty, when it can be used, is for upgrading parts. I can not remember the thread, but one contributor has worked with his dealer to pay the difference and upgrade parts on failed items, depending on how cooperative your dealer is. That sounded like a good plan to me, but as mentioned above, I like the peace of mind while traveling. Plus it is amazing how many places you will go with stray nails when your tread starts to get low.

I bought it also on my 2010 Ultra and got the wheel and tire warranty too.In 3900 miles I've managed to cut two rear tires and it didn't cost me a dime. But who knows you may never need it.It's a gamble.
