Default Harley forkoil weight

I sent my lowers out for chrome recently and I wanted to go with a heavier oil than the type E I had put in there when I installed the 1" lowering kit. I wasn't sure what the weight of the type E oil is compaired to the Scream'n Eagle racing oil so I took a sample into work and had it tested in our oil lab. The results showed the type E to be about 10 weight and the SER oil to be exaclty 20 weight. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Thanks.. as soon as my arm heals up here in bout two weeks, changing my front end out. I'm going to mix the two and I'll be at approx 15 weight.

Used the SE fork oil on my last fork oil change. Firms up the front end a lot but not harsh. Good to know it is a 20 weight - had guessed it was closer to 15 weight.

HD makes two types of SE fork oil, the SE Heavy and SE Extra Heavy (Racing). I'm using the SEH, which firms the forks up just enough to provide excellent control, no bottoming (so far riding solo), and yet not what I would consider harsh. I've heard the Type E is 10-wt, SEH 15, and SER 20. That jibes with the OP's results, and to Badbagger I would suggest just using the SEH.

For anyone with '06 and above FLH bikes wanting to do a fork-oil change quickly and easily, see this write-up. This link starts on page 3 of the thread, and the oil-change tutorial is on post #23. I suspect that this procedure can be used on '02-'05 bikes with one cartridge fork, but I've read no reports on anyone doing it. Older bikes with air forks should use the vacuum method outlined in the service manual, or if no vacuum source is available you can use the method in the write-up.

Okay, just for my own clarification. There are two different SE fork oils the heavy and the extra heavy which they say is for racing applications. My question is was it the heavy or the extra heavy that tested out at 20wt.?

The Type E is 10 Weight, the S/E heavy is 20 Weight and the S/E extra heavy is 30 Weight. Most use 20wt, I mix E with SE and like it. Probably yields about 15 weight or so.
