Is it still under warranty? If so, let them deal with it. If not, go through the EDM, specifically the cruise control diagnostics. The switch is not real hard to change, but it's a PITA.

there are times when I get in 6th gear my light won't come on, but if I move the cruise switch from off to on, the light will magically appear. it's sporadic, not all the time!

Yep. Cruising down the road, cruise kicked off, red security light briefly flashed, no 6th gear light. (Also no turn signals or brake light) Dealer replaced clutch perch, clutch switch, etc. I made countless trips back and forth. Long story short, it was the connection at the HD brake/running light module I added. (Did you happen to install one on your bike?) Mechanic said he noticed a "tiny bit" of corrosion on one of the pins. He used dielectric grease and re-connected it. No problem since.

Alright, here is my situation as of today. I got back from a business trip this afternoon and started putting the bike back together. I had removed the wiring harness for the left hand controls and examined/tested the switch and wiring no problems found. Re-sheathed the harness and put the molex connector back together, based off some information sent by Ridewva I also checked all of the plug connectors for the light system. Took the bike out for about 30 minutes and the cruise worked just fine. I did not see any bare wires, dirty connectors, or anything else that might have looked out of line.

I hate electrical gremlins. I guess I will ride it a while and see if it acts up again. Thanks for the pointers that were posted.

Long story short.....

On my 08 EG Std the cruise control quit working....bad ECM

Then.....
6th gear light quit working...bad switch

Both replaced under warranty.

Took my 2010 SG in for it's 1000 mile service last thursday. I had them adjust the clutch internally cause it was having trouble down shifting. Was riding home down the turnpike and my 6th gear light went off and cruise control quit working. Got home, shut off bike, got back on a few minutes later and everything was working again. I reported it to the dealer and they said to bring it in if it does it again.....
