Default ACC helmets, do they fit better after a break-in period?

I have been trying on ACC helmets for the past year. Harley dealers carry them around here. The fit and finish is very hit and miss and I have yet to find one that feels comfortable.

So is it just that I have the wrong shaped head for this helmet or do they require a break-in period to get comfortable?

Mine fit good right out of the box. My wife's didn't. Ours came with three different thicknesses of liners to custom cut and fine tune the fit. With a little work, I got hers fitting right.

ACC designs their helmets for round heads. If you've got more of an oval shape, you can send it to them and they'll reshape it for free.

I sent mine back for a better fit and explained what I needed on the phone and now it is perfect. They are great to deal with.

They don't "break-in", you need to fit it to your melon.

Mine was so tight on my forehead with the smallest pad that I was going to send it back. I wore it around the house for about an hour and it started to feel better. Now it is like wearing a baseball cap. I can't say if they protect better than other helmets but I can tell you that every other helmet I have owned sat in the closet. I have worn this one every mile I have put on the bike.

After 40,000 non-helmet miles before finding the ACC I am actually thinking about checking out some nice full face helmets, ie. not the $60 I bought 8 years ago. I ride when it is in the 20's and am pretty cold, someone just pointed out the comfort level of a full face in the winter.

I apparently have an odd shaped head and have had a hard time getting any to fit properly barring my old beanie non DOT helmet. One thing I have found is that by really pushing a helmet onto my head with considerable force that it will somewhat depress the liner and fit my head better.

Mine seemed a bit tight when I first got it but broke in very quick. to date it is still the most comfortable DOT helmet I have even owned. I wear every time I ride unless it is so cold I want a 3/4. I would buy another in a heartbeat.
