Default Looking at an '07. Anything I should know.

Looking at a couple different '07 Street Glides. Anything I should know or be aware of with this model and year. Both have 21" in the front and 18" in the rear. One has 103" kit work done and been lowered 1" in the front with about 17k miles, 6k after the 103" kit work. Other has been lowered 2" in the front and has about 5k miles. Pretty similar bikes otherwise. Both are about the same price. This will be my first Harley. Making the trasition from a TL1000R that I sold about 5 years ago. I've ridden my brothers Fat Boy a few times.

Thanks.

Don't know about the street glide but I owned an '07RKC for 18mo.'s 21kmi.with just a stage one air cleaner and Kirker mufflers.Bike ran flawlessly, just decided I'd try a fairing so got my '08 EGC.Heard of a few people who installed an IDS and had some problems with them.

They're the same price, but one has a 103" engine. Duh..... buy the one with the 103".
Also, any 07' touring bike will benifit greatly form the installation of an IDS. Isolatated Drive System. It may already be on there.

See if it has the IDS installed. 103 sounds nice, but hopefully the build was done correctly.

IDS...So what's the long and short of this Isolated Drive System. What is designed to accomplish. And don't say "to isolate the drive system". ha ha. Seriously. Is it deemed necessary by most? Why?

It was designed to keep the noise down from the new 6 speed transmission.

I dont know about the suspensions being dropped. if you are going to ride 2 up any you may want to put the suspension back to stock. The FLHX alrwady sits low. If your a solo rider, go with the 103!!

Good point. The suspension drop on both is only in the front due to the 21" wheel. One has a 1" drop and the other has a 2" drop. Definitely plan to ride 2 up with the wife. I understand the SG comes stock with a 1" drop in the rear.

So it sounds like this IDS can be added pretty easily assuming the aftermarket wheels will allow. Something to definitely inquire about.

So what's your guys opinion, is the IDS absolutely necessary? or a nice thing if you got it but not necessary?

Nice to have but not nesessary. The 21kmi. I put on my '07 RKC in 18 mo's were quite enjoyable even without the IDS.

The noises, vibrations without the IDS seemed to vary bike to bike. Some guy's complained, some didn't, but often a rider that installed the IDS even though he or she wasn't complaining, felt it really improved the smoothness of the bike.
I have a buddy that put one on his 07' SEUC and he said it made all the difference in the world.
I still say, buy the one with the 103" engine.
