You guys crack me up. A guy finds the best quality jacket he wants and buys it. It happens to be American made which makes it even better. Why buy Rineharts or Vance & Hines when the Ebay knockoffs can be had for half the cost?

I'll take quality over quantity every day of the week. That the problem with Americans-we've gotten used to "settling" for an inferior product because of price.

Seriously, don't some of you see the double standard? Why don't you all save a couple of thousand on your next bike and buy a Suzuki?

Well I wouldn't spend 1100 for a jacket, but would spend more for wheels. Like he said he would rather spend his money on a jacket. This is America and he is allowed to spend his money on whatever he wants. As far the difference being made in china and made by an Asian. He is still supporting local business and the money is staying in his community or at least his country. I don't care of an Asian owns and runs the business if it's in America the money stays here

Your post has been a stroll down memory lane for me. I bought my first and only full set of leathers from Langlitz back in 1970 when I was in my early 20's....40 years ago. I outgrew them about 20 years ago, well at least my stomach outgrew them.

I gave them to my brother-in-law 2 years ago and they fit him perfectly. They are still like brand new even though I put about 50,000 miles on them, mostly during Colorado winters. My best guess on the cost back then is around $300.00.

I've heard tell that some people consider the "Perfecto" by Schott Co. in New York to be the best leather jacket money can buy. They've been making jackets since the 1920's. I'm sure there are many other brands that push that kind of reputation. Langlitz is certainly high quality stuff to be sure.....but these days I'm much more interested in good quality for a bargain price and I'm not picky about where it's made. I recently bought a jacket that looks just like the Perfecto but only cost $100.00....made in Pakistan. Yeah, I know, some of those folks are the enemy.

I'll attach some pictures I took of my leathers before I mailed them off to my brother-in-law. Also a picture of a Perfecto if I can find one.

As I said before, I waited ten years to buy mine, until I saved the nickels and dimes. It was a goal and I finally got there. Not to flaunt, but because I think the old fashioned way that Langlitz does business still holds extra value in today's Wal-Mart society. Spend a little time on the website, read about their business philosophy, read some customer testimonials. You just might be impressed.

as far as i know most of the leather that we get i also tanned in brockton mass...but vanson is no longer entirely made in USA. we have a plant in el salvador and about 80% of our standard stuff is now made there.
thanx
Thanks for that info. Didn't know that.

Buying stuff made in America is all well and good. But not everything made overseas is junk. It's not unusual to be able to find very good quality from overseas for a fraction of the cost.

I don't think anyone referred to overseas products as junk on this thread. Just a few guys that appreciate American made motorcycle jackets is all.

Just an FYI; I have a couple year old HD Jacket that has an American Flag sewn in it, and it says clearly on the label; "Made in the USA". New it was $275.00 Pretty high quality leather too, but it only has 1 pocket in the inside.

My HD leather fits me great and offers adequate protection as far as leather jackets go and I'll probably get tired of it long before it wears out. Do I think the HD jackets are over priced? Yes, I do, but they are still 1/3 the price of that custom made jacket that I believe is way over the top at $1125.
