It really does not take that much more to pull it off to paint it.

Bad idea.

Even if you spend hours masking everything off and covering the rest of the bike, you'll still have some over spray somewhere, not to mention the paint lines on the dash

Spend the couple hours pulling it apart and putting it back together.

You'll be MUCH happier with the results.

I feel confident (without even knowing you) that you will not come up with a worse idea this calendar year....no place to go but up!

Over spray and masking lines are a real thing. Do it right or you'll be sorry, that is if you care.

With the amount of time you will spend masking everything off, you could just remove it.

Why would you possibly think that could be a good idea. Spend 20k on a bike and then come up with an idea like that. Do it the right way or leave it the way it is. You idea would take a ton of time and the results would look like chit. IMHO

Guys, he was just asking. No need to flame the guy or insinuate he an idiot for asking. To answer your question, I have not heard of any one doing that. Like a couple of the good responses you got, it would take just as much time taking it off as it would masking it off. Only you would have a much better paint job if you take it off.

There's no way. You couldn't get an even application of the paint. Have you done any spray painting before? (I'm guessing none or little and I don't mean to be rude by saying as much - it's just if you had you probably wouldn't be asking the question). You'll seriously regret trying this and then have to tear it all down to get it done right.
