It will work. Get this:

http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPa...uct_Id=496831#

The initial description is confusing but the features tab says, "Compatible with iPodŽ shuffle, 3rd generation, 4GB" which is what you are looking for

and this:

I guess that's when I would wish I had the inline volume control. But even if you need the inline control it's very small size makes me want to get one and try it out.

use the Belkin product I just listed and you can rewind, pause, FF, control volume, etc. It allows you to use your own high end headphones instead of the Apple ones or use a patch cord to your stereo and still supply ipod controls

Just bought an ipod shuffle 2gb, also bought a aux cable 1.8m, plugs right in aux port and comes in loud and clear. It works great this thing is so small easy to carry with you. I can also carry it with me in the truck radio.

Here is what I am going with...
http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID...productID/1848
It solves both problems and the Velcro idea for a holder is spot on. As light as these are you won't ever need more.
