It was holding on by a thread when she stepped on it. I wouldn't over tighten these bolts or you will be back with the same problem, use the recommended torque in the manual and blue locktite.
That is what I hope never happens My wife wouldn't get on again if that had happen to her.
The bolt on mine broke at the first thread. They were torqued at the dealer, two years ago. So I assume the bolt is sub standard from the factory.

Thanks for that info. I should know tomorrow what the dealer has to say.

I heard this is a common problem, that's why they switched to the 2 bolts for 2010. The best fix is to buy new Grade 8 SS bolts.

A grade 7 bolt would be a better choice. A SS bolt will be to brittle.

Just remember, even with a Grade 8 bolt if you over torque it and cause a stress crack it's only a matter of time as well..

I just want to know, the bolts that broke, Did you use the mounts as tie down points before ?? A friend of mine had one broke on the trailer after trying down too tight. After reading this, my next mod will be a trip to Ace Hardware and replace the factory bolts with grade 8.

Be Safe JIM PS ONE WEEK TO BIKE WEEK !!!!!!
