Default 2010 Street Glide 13 inch Cyclesmith install

Appears lots of people have installed 13 inch Cyclesmith bars on their Street Glide, but wonder if anyone can list the needed parts. I have done a lot of reading on this, but still don't know what I need besides a service manual. From what I have read, it sounds like I need some extension cables as well. This is for a 2010 Street Glide without ABS.

For anyone that has done this, can you tell me where you bought your parts and what exactly I need. I was hoping I could buy a kit with everything in it. I assume I need to replace the grips? I was reading about the Throttle by Wire setup and I assume my bike has that and will need to buy the more expensive bars?

Just trying to get educated so any related info would be great!

Thanks!

Theres a place on ebay that will sell all you need in one package. I bought my bars from ebay, but bought my lines and cable from hdbikeparts.com. You have to make sure the bars you have are notched at the throttle end for tbw. Also if you want to run your wires internal, make sure you get the bars that are not dimpled at the grip ends. If you can get your grips off without cutting, then you can reuse. You can reroute your wires in the fairing which will save some money and wont need wire extensions. If you go the route I went, make sure you get the bars I stated and tell hdbikeparts what you are doing and Johnny will set you up with everything you need as far as lines and cables.

With 13’ Cyclesmiths you can buy a complete kit on e-bay, if you buy parts separate you will need +6 on he clutch cable and brake line. You will not have to extend the wires just relocate them under the radio. You can use the stock grips and all parts can be bought at your local stealer.

Thanks guys for the replies. I have searched eBay for "Cyclesmith ape kit", but not finding anything. I googled it too with no results.

Sounds like I need a +6" clutch cable, brake cable, and bars and that is it? I assume I don't need to cut any wires for these bars?

Would the service manual have a step by step guide on how to remove the bars?

I realize there are lots of posts on replacing bars and I read a ton, but I haven't found anything that really explains how to do it and what parts I need, so I apologize if this question has been asked before! Just want to make sure I go about this right before I tear apart my 20k bike!

Bennie,
It's funny that you are the one who responded to me, because it's your bike that actually inspired me to go with the 13" apes! I think those look perfect on the SG! Your bike looks great man!

I just pulled the trigger last week on W1 12.5 w/all parts required from HD Bikeparts. Bars, Clutch cable, extended plug & play TBW, extended brake line kit & extended wiring kit. Going to do the install myself. Ive installed bars before but never on a bagger, so hopefully it wont be much different with the exception of the obvious. Out of all the research I did, it was less expensive for me to go thru Johnny Vaughn. I figure if all goes well I should be able to start Friday after work and hopefully be able to test ride it on Sat afternoon and go for a full ride that Sunday. Should know in a couple of weeks.

Thanks man! I love the look as well. They are really comfortable too. I bought mine from murrayscycles on ebay. paid $199 w/free shipping. I just checked and it looks like he doesn't have any that are pre drilled right now, they are all dimpled. Maybe shoot him an email and see if he has any. I think he is a middle man with discounts from custom chrome. There are a few others on ebay. I know hcccycles also have bars and whole kits. You wont need to cut wires, but will need to disassemble the molex connectors. A little tedious, but not difficult with patience and a good diagram. It is a good idea to have the manual. I think there is more info here on how to do the job, but I referenced it a couple times. If you have any question, shoot me a message I would be happy to help if I can.

Thanks Bennie. Are those Cyclesmith bars or another brand? I really appreciate your help!
