Default Cruise Initialization Procedure?

I installed the HD Cruise Control on my '09 EGS and of course you have to go to a Harley dealer to get it initialized....or do you... I heard the rumor that there is a procedure that I can perform to turn it on myself.

I did some searching here but couldn't find it - especially with respect to my '09 fly by wire throttle. Can someone point me in the right direction? I 'can' take it to the dealer but not until it stops snowing here in Tennessee.

Thanks.

I haven't heard that "Rumor" From everything I understand. The bike needs a "Flash" of some kind to let it know that cruise is installed now....
It would be nice if someone proves me wrong! Save you a few bucks for the dealer visit!

I installed cruise on my '05 last week and it was ready out of the box. Although the dealer said I had to bring it in to turn on. They were wrong. The service manual had cable lashing procedures which the instructions said nothing about. I say try it out or look in the '09 service manual to see what its says.

I know they hook it up to the computor. Took them about 10 min. to do mine. That came out to $180.00 per hr. (Not bad work if you can get it.)

I took mine to the dealer, cost $50.00. Also got the on/off for heat management working. Before installing cruise it wouldn't work.

When I did mine on my 07 electra glide classic, I didn't have to have the dealer do anything to it. But since you have a 09, you might have to because of the fly by wire set-up.

Well, I haven't been able to track that procedure down yet but I'll keep diggin'. I hope I don't have to take it to the shop and it works right out of the box. The computer is smart enough to know that it has the cruise controls plugged into it but who knows what Harley has done with the fly by wire system. I haven't been able to get it out there as I look out and watch it continue to snow here in middle Tennessee.

I called three shops in Nashville and asked them how much it would cost to plug in and turn it on. I got estimates from $50.00 to $20.00. I'll go to the $20.00 shop if it needs it.
