You can buy one cheaper from an auto parts store and buy just the HD weather cap for $1. I have a post in the DIY section on putting just the cap on.

Cripes, HERE's an outlet with a boot cover for a whopping $2.59 (doesn't have bar and shield logo though)

I bought one of weatherproof covers (91844-97) mentioned in some of the above posts from the dealer to install over the socket in my batwing because I do not smoke. When I removed the outer fairing so that I could install the cover I discovered that the plug appears to be pressed into the fairing. I thought that there would be a large nut on the back that I could remove to slide out the socket, but not so. Has anyone been able to install one of these, and if so how?

With the outer fairing cover off grab the silver part that covers the lighter and unscrew it. That silver cover is the "nut" you were looking for. The lighter socket will come out the front.

Great! Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to find time to pop the outer fairing off again tonight and install the cover.
