Default Ultra Bottoming Out w/Low Touring Air Shocks

Just added profile low-touring air shocks to lower new Ultra Limited but find that it is bottoming out on occasions. I think if I add air to 50# it will help, but dealer says it is a result of lower shock travel. The MOCO just came out with a hand-adjustable low touring nitrogen-charged shock. Item number 54680-10; pricey at $499.95. Does anyone have any experience with these shocks or similar ones from other vendors?

At that price I'd spend a bit more and get Arnott air ride, then you can adjust as needed.

Do you have an 09 or newer bike?

If so - Lower HD shocks - two up - use at least 42 lbs

My '01 Ultra bottomed out with low touring shocks so I put the stock back on.
I now have the new **** shocks on my 2010 Road Glide. Came on my bike due to a dealer swap. The **** shocks do not bottom out but the ride seems to be a little stiff. I wouldn't pay $499 for them.

On low profile's Harley should warn customers about bottoming out and set a max weight limit.Single rider not bad but 2 up is different story not a good product specially for full dressers.

You might want to consider the factory 13" shocks and a 1" lowering kit to get the same effect, yet have one additional 1" of travel and the 1" lowered appearance...

You need to play with the air pressure. I have the shorter shocks aswell and I weigh 160 and run 10 to 15lbs solo and only on the biggest nastiest bumps does it bottom and when my wife rides I bump up the pressure to 35 to 40psi and rarely bottom out. So I would play with the pressure a little and remember that you do have 1in less travel than the stock shocks and a sacrifice has to be made somwhere.

Hope this helps Tim

I've used the HD low profile shocks on 2 bikes now. My 06 Ultra has about 32,000 miles on a set now along with the lowered front end. I've taken many of trips with the bike fully loaded and the OL on back and have had no problems with bottoming out. I weigh about 230 and the OL is right around 130. When my dad used to have his 06 Ultra he had the exact same setup and took many of trips with my mom and had no issues. I run 45# pressure when I'm fully loaded up.

change the oil in the shocks to ten weight oil. The oil that's in there is five weight oil. I did it to mine and it made all the difference no more bottoming out smother ride and I run 15-25 psi in the shocks
