Default Garmin Zumo 550

Also known as a Road Tech as sold by Harley.

I have placed some music on a memory chip in a MP3 format and installed it in the Zumo. The problem I have is the Zumo doesn't recognize it. When I press the music selection icon it will not show me the selections I have recorded. Any thoughts on this will be appreciated.

How many songs? How big is your SD Card? I had about 800 songs on mine and it takes about 10 minutes to load before the icon will work.

I assume that you formatted the SD card first, so that your Zumo knows it's there, right?

Its a 2 GB card. I've only used .4 GB. You may have something about the formating. Will try that.

Its definately WAY better to put the songs in folders, either by artist, genre, whatever. This makes the 'start-up" quicker and it will recognize them much faster.

Formating solved the problem. Thanks for the responses.

Go to zumoforums.com for a TON of info

Also from what I understand the 550 has issues with some cards over 2 gig.

The Zumo 550 cannot read or play a playlist with more than 1,000 songs. I have a 16GB card in my 550 and had no problems with it. Ck zumoforums.com.

I use http://www.mediamonkey.com to organize, categorize, attach album art etc. to mp3's.
It works great and is easy to use. Give it a try. Free download.

Yes, the song limit on the Z is 1000 songs.
When I copy songs to the Z I create a "root" folder on the Z called Music.
I put all songs organized by Album under the root music folder.
This also helps because I can see how many files (up to 1000) are in the music folder.
The music root folder structure also really helps speed up the boot up process when turning on the Z.

Garmin says that the Zumo 550 supports up to 4Gig cards.
I have used 8GB and 16GB, but whatever SD card you use, the 1000 song limit is still there.

SIDE NOTE:
My favorite voice is Australian Karen (The Saucy Aussie)
Every time American Jill says "Recalculating" it sounds like she's giving me attitude!!!
I'm usually lost and frustrated at this point and I don't need someone that sounds like my second ex-wife bitching at me.
They way Karen says it is so nice I just want to keep driving around the block over and over.

I also have a small collection of Z splash screen if you are interested.
Here are a couple of samples.

LOL! Yes, I intentionally bought the 16GB SD card for the Zumo. The intent was to load it up with tunes. Later, I found the 1000 song limit on zumoforums.com.
