Default My cruise is installed!

Well, after about five hours I finally got the cruise control installed. I got it half off at the dealer which is why I finally pulled the trigger. They said I would have to bring it in to have it activated so I made an appointment for the morning. After putting everything back together I took it for a ride and whadya know? It worked! The second I took my hand off the throttle I knew that I should've bought this 50,000 miles ago! I have the day off tomorrow and am gonna use it some more and take my have off the throttle and maybe wave with my right hand Now I am wondering why they told me I needed it activated? Is this not common that it works out of the box? Anyways I am pretty darn excited!

No dealer "activation" required. Unfortunately, ignorance is not uncommon at HD parts counters.

Congrats on a successful installation. The only "activation" (and it's not really) is the "cable lash initialization" procedure. It's not explained in the cruise control kit's installation instructions, but there is a sticky in the DIY portion of the forum if you didn't have the Service Manual handy to follow the instructions for the procedure found in the SM. If you did the procedure that's all there is except to enjoy it on your next ride/trip.

Thanks I did all that. I bought the service manual when I bought the bike. And it was the guys at the service counter that told me activation was required!

Well, you have to activate the do-hickey or the thing-a-ma-jig wont work! And activation will cost about $300.00. Thank you very much!

How does it look with your chrome housings? (it looks like you have chrome in your picture) Just wondering if you had to buy a different housing or ? Would like to get it for my 04' RK if it does not sell.

Ya, I do like the chrome housings and went with the chrome buttons too awhile back. Unfortunately, I had to buy another set of housings and all I needed was the bottom right housing for the cruise set/resume button! Luckily, my dealer was having a open house/jacket drive. Everyone got 10% off off the bat and and extra 10% for each jacket you donate. I brought in 4 for 50% off! The cruise came with a new black housing and buttons. I put the chrome housing on the right side and thought it looked good with the black buttons. So, as of right now, the right side housings are chrome with black switches and the left side has chrome housings with chrome buttons until I can figure out which I like best
