Road King vs Road Glide
I have been lurking on this site for a while as I am about to take the jump into the world of HD. I want to start by saying what a great site this is and have been impressed with the helpfulness and friendliness of the members. I have narrowed my choice down to a RK standard or the Road Glide. Hadn't even considered the Road Glide until I sat on one at the dealers the other day. The seat, handlebars, winshield height all felt just right. Would just like to get some input from you guys out there on any pros/cons for either of these bikes. I did read that moisture has a tendency to get into the guages and behind the headlight cover on the RG. Are there any issues with heat due to the fairing? I currently own a BMW R1100RT. Thanks in advance for your comments

I went through the same process and ended up buying the Road King Standard with the hard bags. I liked it because it allows more options for modifications. I test drove both bikes at bike week. The fairing and the radio are really nice and would be nice on a long trip. You need to rent both and ride them.

Being a RK owner I feel that it is the best touring bike. Its good retro look as well as comfort on the long haul makes it an easy choice. But of course we all have our own tastes and you should base your decision on what you like. Here is a pic of my ride....

RE: Road King vs Road Glide
I rode the road king classic, Ultra Classic and Road Glide before I made my decision. The Road Glide to me looks like a jet ski so I opted out of that one. The Road king was not the look I was after and I ended up with the Ultra Classic and I'm glad I did. It's a great cold weather bike and has tons of storage and looks great too.
Good luck in your search and post pics when you get your new ride.

RE: Road King vs Road Glide
I rode a RoadKing for 10 years and loved it. It is a great Spartan touring bike, and a good cruiser too, but after having my ElectraGlide Classic for the last 7 months, I would not go back. The Classic has a stereo, tour pac, fairing and other features that lend themselves to touring. It also handles the highway better than my Roadking did.
I pull off the quick detach. tour pac, and put on a 6 1/2" smoked windshield, and have a good cruiser that handles town riding as good as the Roadking, and looks good too.
I am not crazy about the look of the Roadglide, but I would want a stereo, and the protection of a fairing, so if my only two choices were the Roadglide or the Roadking, I would probably choose the Roadglide. If I were you however, I wouldn't discount the EG Standard, EG Classic or EG Ultra Classic.
Just an opinion.
Regards,
Bill

Different strokes for different folks.
I went with the 05 RK standard. I liked the Classic, but wanted hard bags. I have added mods to my liking, and some bling. Hey, it's my ride and Ill ride it the way I want.
Rent before you buy. Put a couple of hundred miles on each one so you know about how each one feels to you.
What ever you decide to ride, just do it.
Post some pics of your new putt when you get it home.

RE: Road King vs Road Glide
I ride a RK Classic these days, and enjoy the bike, but seriously considered a Road Glide. I like the fairing, and didn't want a Electra Glide. The thing that drove me to the Road King was resale. The dealers here in central Ohio rarely get in Road Glides, and hate taking them in on trades because they have a hard time selling them. You rarely see them on the road around here, so I let my concern about resale sway me. One year while at Myrtle Beach, I rented a Road Glide for the day (after I had bought the RK), and found I really like the bike. I rode down to the Charleston SC dealer, and ended up running into a kid working there who had been on the staff at my dealer here in Ohio. I told him how much I liked the Road Glide, and he said the Road Glide is one of the most popular bikes around there.
The best advice you got in this thread is the rent-before-you-buy comments. After renting the Road Glide, I realize I would have rather had one. But then a couple of years ago, I rented an Electra Glide in Germany, and decided that's the next bike for me, if I get another one.
What I really want is a zillion dollars and one of each... Oh, and I really like the new Deluxe...

I have a Road Glide and there is no heat problem with the fairing. Some people comlain about heat from lower fairings bet that won't be a problem for you. The gauges do get moisture from time to time but clear up fast with no damage, same with headlight (but only when you wash it. You get the same moisture on the classic and ultra (gauges). I love the way the glide handles and the amount of wind that is blocked by the fairing. I also love the look of the glide and there are multitudes of custom parts to make the bike your own. Take a look at my gallery in reference to mods I have done.
On another note:
The Road King is also an excellent bike. One of my best friends who rides with me often has a Road King Police Bike that is really nice. Like everyone else said. Ride then decide
Jet Ski?????????

RE: Road King vs Road Glide
I think you got all of the answers you need in the posts above. These guys are great.
I went with the RKC because I like the classic styling, and I like the quick disconnect windshield, which to me, gives you the best of both worlds. You can have protection, or ride with the wind in your face.
One other issue with me is I ride to get away and clear my head. I love the sound of the V-twin motor and the rush of the wind. I would never even turn on a radio if one came with my bike. YMMV.
I don't think you can go wrong with either bike.
