Default Oil Temp Gauges to replace "Ambient Air Temp" Guage

I was on page 901 in the J&P Cycles catalog and noticed that there is a gauge to measure your oil temperature. It mounts right in place of the ambient air temp gage and says that it is an "easy install". They feature it in a white face and in a black face.

Has anyone installed it? How is it? Easy? Nice? etc.

Thanks,

Denis

I bought the HD one but have not installed it yet. Many people have talked about the guage from wallys cycle world. By what I have read it is an extremely simple install. I believe if you go to the do it yourself section somewhere i found a post that showed step by step install and even had pictures to reference.

Looks like Wally's cycle doesn't have the white faced gauge, but has a black or silver faced.

Thanks for the input.

Denis,

There is a step-by-step guide for installing the gage from Wally's on the forum. https://www.hdforums.com/m_96556/tm.htm
This might give you a better idea of the work involved.

The Wally's one has a sending unit that attaches in/to the oil pan, the HD gauge uses an inline adaptor with a sending unit installed in the adaptor.

Are the LED dipstick oil temp jobbies just as accurate? Seems like it would be less of a hassle to put in a new dipstick with a guage, just my .02. But, as with everything else on here I will probably put this shabang on my wish list for future mods[]
