best tires for 18's
Need to get a new rear tire. I 18s front and rear. I have been reading about the E3s but it does not look like they have 18s. I currenty have avons that came with the bike when i bought it. Just wondering if should I try some other tires. also do I need to change both at the same time?

Not sure about WI weather, but with the Texas heat I ride in, the Metzler ME880 are sweet. Almost every indy shop in town insists on them and I've got 6k on my first set (running 16" rims) and love them. I've got 2 brothers running them on their 18's with no problems. Road 9 years on Dunlops only cause the HD and the dealer said to, wrong, that was 9 years of comfort I won't get back. The 880s run softer (like Avons) and grip the road great. Just my opinion but the next set I get will be Metzlers again.

I recently mounted some 18" wheels on my ride and did some extensive research when considering tires. An important factor for me was a tire that had an acceptable load rating. The Metzelers ME880 and Pirelli Night Dragons were the only ones that would do the job. When considering load rating, you still need to take into account the weight that is transferred to the front wheels during heavy braking. Also, if you tour heavy laden and/or with a passenger, load rating is crucial.
I opted for the Pirelli Night Dragons and so far, so good. Can't tell you how long they'll last, but they hold its line well (coming from E3's previously) in the turns. Haven't really stretched her legs in any mountain riding, but so far, uneven pavement doesn't affect the ride/handling. I got heavier rims so I can't say for certain if switchbacks are easier on these tires, but the profile is on the narrower side for better "drop". Haven't ridden in the rain so can't comment there. Heavy braking is confident. No hairy feeling when I scrubbed in my new rotors. I did get the E3's to lock up (talking front tire here in extreme performance riding), but the Night Dragon's seem better in this department. But then again, I also upgraded my calipers to the Brembo's.
I've heard excellent reviews on the 880's and I might give them a shot....if I find a reason to ditch these Pirellis.
