Default Cams - 255's or Woods - HD Warranty Issues?

Yeah, I know. I did a search and there's just too many threads to go through.

I'm not looking for any info on the performance attributes of either of these cams. Just one question.

Are the 255's less likely to cause any potential warranty issues due to the fact that they are HD and come stock on the CVO's? Thanks.

I think it depends on your individual dealer being willing to play ball should an issue arise. Mine said my warranty would remain valid if they installed 255s.

Just a simple question.....Unless it's the cams that caused the warranty issue, how is the dealer going to know what kind of cams you have in it? Anything unrelated to the cams, it doesn't matter and they aren't going to care.

Mine did too with SE cams, even with the SE 103" pistons/bore. But that's just them ...

Mine steered me towards a SE product for warranty issues and stated that they would stand behind them.

IMO like one of the above posters mentioned as long as the cam doesn't cause the problem it shouldn't be an issue.

Won't be able to extend your warranty on the engine even with the HD parts. I looked into it and both MOCO and the company which writes the insurance said no. Its a racing application(give me a break) lol. The dealer did stand by their work, but I really have not had any problems other than a starter replaced. Insure you get some sort of compression release application with the build I did not. I am convinced that is the cause of my starter issues.

Harleys SE race book for performance components gives checkered flags and green flags to denote which components maintain warranty and which don't. The SE 255 cams maintains your warranty. Check it out on the Harley web site.

My SE catalog in PDF shows only black cross-flags, which designates they are offered for "race application only." The 255's and all SE cams have "For race application only" in their descriptions. That's a bit comical, because the 255's are hardly racing cams with their priority on the low-end and midrange, not the top-end where you will be in most racing environments.

They also have a warranty disclaimer in the front of the catalog, stating "Warranty installation of Screamin’ Eagle® products, and similar off-road or competition products from other manufacturers, except some street-legal offerings installed by authorized Harley® dealers, may void your H-D® limited vehicle warranty. See your dealer for more information." A®®®®®! This means to me that if you get the okay from your dealer you are fine, but legally they can't deny your warranty unless the cams can be shown to have contributed to an otherwise warrantable repair.

I have 255's in my TC96 that I installed, which the dealer knows about, and when I had a tranny bearing go bad HD agreed to repair it at no cost to me even though it was 10-months outside the 2-yr. factory warranty with no extended warranty. OTOH I'm sure the dealer didn't say anything about the cam job.

Mine also OKed the SE103. Since I have 20 months left on my warranty I will probably go in this direction.
